The Division of Communication & Theatre at Indiana Wesleyan University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Strategic Communication, specializing in public relations. The Division of Communication & Theatre serves approximately 120 majors and minors across 5 areas of study. The division sees communication as service, in response to the university’s mission as a “Christ-centered academic community committed to changing the world by developing students in scholarship, leadership and character.” Successful candidates will show evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ, comfort with the Wesleyan perspective, and a commitment to liberal learning as well as a fully integrated life of faith and work, embracing God’s purpose individually and collaboratively. Start date will be July 2020.
PhD preferred. Applicants who are ABD or who have a master’s degree and are willing to pursue a PhD will be considered. A minimum of two year’s experience in public relations or related fields are strongly desired.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The faculty member will teach the principal public relations courses and give direction to 35-40 majors. Additional teaching contributions are possible in organizational communication, research methods and theoretical components of communication and general education courses (such as the public speaking/interpersonal hybrid, media literacy and intercultural communication). The faculty member will advise the nationally accredited chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and give general support to PR-related internships, student-faculty communication research and community service campaigns.
